Exploding toads puzzle German scientists - Science - MSNBC.com

This story is just kind of disturbing. Thousands of toads are exploding for no known reason. Scientists just can't figure it out. It's kind of creepy. I wonder what it is that's causing it....

New signs of a space-time shift - Space Library - MSNBC.com

This is a somewhat interesting article about evidence supporting an Einsteinian hypothesis about relativity, but what really got me is that the Italian team of scientists are named Mario and Luigi. I cracked up when I read that. Made trudging through the article worthwhile for more than just curiosity's sake.

Einstein's revolution enters second century - - MSNBC.com

This was an interesting article about Einstein. I know some stuff about him, but there is a lot I didn't know. It's interesting to learn more about him, because he's a prominent figure. I think I also really thought he was cool when I was a kid. It's also intersting for me to learn other ways that the universe is supposed to work. I like to synthesize them together, sometimes. Anyhow, I just thought this was interesting is all...

This is interesting. A cybernetic suit that helps people move around and lift more. It looks pretty cool.

David Suzuki Foundation: Home

David Suzuki Foundation: Home

This is a cool site I found at Melissa Auf Der Maur's blog. It focuses on environmenal issues, and has weekly columns by David Suzuki, a prominent environmentalist. I think it might be from Canada, so again, it focuses in different areas than where I am located, but much of the ideas still carry over, and since it's Canada, it's not that far away. I think it's going to become a place I visit regularly.

RollingStone.com: The Long Emergency : Politics

RollingStone.com: The Long Emergency : Politics

This was something unusual... an article from Rolling Stone that actually made me think. I've got to say that the sense of hopelessness this writer has doesn't help anyone, but he made some good points, and I learned a few things from it. It's about the energy crisis currently facing the world, and the potential aftermath. I think what bothers me is that he disputes the viability of alternative energy sources because they would require the use of our fossil fuel infrastructure to create them, but, for the moment anyway, we still have that, so we might as well put it to good use while we can. Yeah, creating solar and wind power plants requires a significant investment of energy, but that seems like one of the best things we could put that energy to in this case. Far better than, say, running an SUV for a year. It would provide energy that would be available from then on. He also didn't mention things like tidal power, or some other methods I know of. He also painted a rather bleak, almost apocalyptic picture of life without oil, which I'm not entirely sure is true. Still, it's a worthwhile article to read, because it does expose the seriousness of other aspects of the energry crisis... and has lots of things that most people probably haven't really heard about before.

Creature News

This is a fun looking blog on various animal-related stories. It's based in the UK, so it focuses on that area a lot, and unfortunately, that means some of the petitions are ones I'm not eligible for. Still, it's a fun little blog, and it's about things I care about, so I figured I'd put it up. Might be worth checking out.

I've been a big fan of Dave Navarro for some time, and it's cool that he's getting recognized, because he has been through a lot to get off of drugs. It's good that he's off of drugs, now, because he's quite talented, but not terribly well documented. I'd really suggest you check out some of his work.

Banurgle Pile - A Bravenet.com Forum

Just thought I'd let everyone know that we've got a web forum related to the website. A lot of the posts are themed similarly to the cartoons, but so far, not much of it really relates to the comic extensively. We might add more comic content, later, but whoever comes on the forum can help steer it in whatever direction they like. Just thought I'd let people know there was a forum open, in case you were interested.

Four Children Killed in Baghdad explosion

PeoplePC - News

I almost didn't want to blog this, because for me, it's just gotten to a point where I'm about sick of hearing about stuff in Iraq, but then I thought about the people who are living it. They don't have the choice to just stop reading about it, stop hearing about it, stop watching the news. It can still just come to them and blow them up, shoot them, kill them, maim them permanently. I know a lot of Americans' response is to ignore the problem because we think we can't do much of anything, but even just the intent for it to end has to add up to something. For my part, I'm still sending letters and emails to congresspeople, at least occasionally, and just taking note of what's happening. Ignoring the problem won't make it go away, and as I haven't got the power to really change it, directly, I think one of the best things I can do is to witness it as fully as I can, and try to use whatever means I have at my disposal to try to change things for the better.

Your guide to an unusual solar eclipse - Space.com - MSNBC.com

Your guide to an unusual solar eclipse - Space.com - MSNBC.com

This is cool because I had no idea there was a solar eclipse coming... even a partial one. What's cool to me is that at least a small fragment of it could be seen from where I am. There's also a link to a webcast of the eclipse which is even cooler, since I don't have the equipment to look at the eclipse, myself... and I'm sure it won't be very dramatic, since I'm just barely in the path of it at all. One thing I can say about MSN is that they do very well at covering eclipses and other cosmic events.

World's Oldest Object

PeoplePC - News

I found this article more interesting because I hadn't heard about the crystal itself more than the rather hum-drum sounding celebration they were having for it. I was just excited that there was some finding that challenged the established theory. That's always exciting to me. Means that science has to rethink itself at least to some extent. That's just cool to me... and that the Earth was apparently not a giant piece of swirling magma makes things more interesting, aesthetically, too. Just thought this was interesting.

Drool.

Sorry, but I really like both Billy Corgan and Robert Smith, so to hear that they are working together... even on a cover of an old Bee Gees song, is really cool and interesting to me... so much the more because of the unusual choice of song. I'm excited to hear a solo album from Billy Corgan, and it's always cool to hear about Robert Smith collaborations. Gives me hope that if I can make it big, I might be able to finangle one. Anyhow, just thought this was cool.

This looked like a fairly interesting site. I'm kind of in a hurry, so I haven't been able to do much more than check out the front page, but it looks to be fillled with information. I'm sure some of it, I already know, because I tend to keep fairly plugged in about that sort of thing, but I'll bet there's a bunch I wouldn't know, and if you're interested in songwriting, but not terribly in the know about it, yet, this looks to be a good place to start. I actually found this page through a contest page, but it looks like something I'll keep checking out down the road.

I saw a link for this site on Tech TV. It's a pretty good site for getting news about comic book movies. If you're interested in that sort of thing (and I am), it's a pretty good resource for getting current information about it. I'd definitely recommend it.
