Magical Elitism

http://io9.com/5831053/

I found this an interesting take on the state of fiction today. It asks about why magic, which used to be something everyone could learn to do, has become, instead, something people are born with in fictional stories. Since the former ideas are more in line with actual real-world magical practices, I find the concept worth investigating. There are no answers given, but interesting questions are raised.
